Guidelines for Fulfilled Living

In everything I’ve written and collected on this site, I am seeking a universal approach to Fulfilled Living, specifically health and wellness.

Fulfilled Living

Despite vast differences and conflicting opinions when it comes to health and wellness, all cultures share universal truths. Behind the facade of cultural differences and egotistical squabbling, all of humankind shares one undeniable common factor: Genetic design.

To be bound to one particular way of thinking with regards to such a fundamental fact of Nature is to limit one’s personal growth and compromise one’s health. All schools of thought should therefore be considered. The positive and the constructive aspects should be extracted from each of these schools and merged to form a more holistic and universal paradigm.

In this modern age we are exposed to abnormally high levels of stress, strain, temptation and bad habits. We should therefore be taking more care than ever before in optimising our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual resilience.

In essence we all want to be healthy in every sense of the word. Being healthy gives us physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energy. It gives us power and control over our lives. It can honestly be said that being healthy has an abundance of seriously positive side effects.

Optimal Health

Optimal Health consists of a balance of physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual and social health. (O’Donnel, 1986).

  • Social: Communities, families, friends
  • Physical: Fitness, nutrition, medical self care, control of substance abuse
  • Spiritual: Love, hope, charity, purpose
  • Emotional Health: Healthy self image, able to identify and communicate feelings
  • Intellectual: Education, achievement, career, development

These dimensions are often depicted as a “life wheel” with additional examples of health components that include purpose in life, financial planning, social connections & support systems, stress management, mind-body health, career planning and continued learning. The key for individual health is keeping the “life wheel” in balance. A comprehensive wellness program should address all of these dimensions.

That is what this website attempts to do.
