Michael’s Core Beliefs in a Nutshell
I am often asked (usually by skeptics, trolls and naysayers) to summarise my basic beliefs, and so while this isn’t common on a personal site, it makes sense to do so here.
My principles, ideologies and beliefs have changed over the years. This used to concern me. How could I change my core beliefs? This would mean acknowledging that something I firmly believed in previously was now wrong. So for years I resisted changing my beliefs. It was comforting to find a belief system and wallow in it’s welcoming woolliness.
Not any more.
I’m now comfortable changing my core beliefs without much fanfare, particularly if doing so further expands my consciousness. So my current core beliefs below, in no particular order, are subject to change. Change is good.
Core Beliefs
- “The System” we’re born into in the Western world is merely a game played unknowingly by us according to rules created by others. Although we’re free to make any choices we desire, the available options are severely restricted, giving the illusion of freedom. No matter which choice we make, the creators of the game win. Heads they win, tails we lose.
- However, we’re free to change the rules, or even change the game completely, once we ‘grok’ the game and know the rules.
- The game we’re playing is a Ponzi scheme. It requires an ever-increasing flow of money in order to keep the scheme going, which is why all businesses are constantly pressured to keep growing. Hence consumerism. Consumerism promotes personal competition (I’m better than you because of what I own, not because of who I am) and hence separatism. Separatism is the core blockage to true happiness.
- Until we change the rules, winning means becoming a better consumer. Consuming adds no value; creating is what sets man apart from other mammals. Until we consciously create we cannot make a meaningful contribution to humanity.
- Because the game we’re playing is a Ponzi scheme, all known systems are due to collapse at some point, and probably sooner than we realize. Government, debt-based monetary systems, healthcare systems, food production based on mechanized agriculture, reliance on fossil fuels and many other systems that we take for granted will soon be relics from a dim and distant era. But rising from the ashes will be a new way of doing business.
- ‘Right’ and ‘wrong’ is relative and is determined by a combination of your geographic location, your cultural background and the date on your calendar. (Simple version: there is no such thing as right and wrong).
- The political debate is a sham. No matter where you live in the world, you are subject to the laws of Mercantilism. In layman’s terms, this is an economic theory in which government has the right to intervene to play a protectionist role when the forces of supply and demand threaten a nation state. Good for government, bad for individual freedom.
- The religious debate is a sham. All sacred texts convey the same metaphysical message, tweaked for regional, cultural and historical differences. The essence is that we are all spiritual beings on a physical journey and that we are equal partners in the creative process of the Universe. The objective of the game is to continuously expand consciousness, or become God. [Ooooh, controversial!]
- Expanding consciousness is cool. In the Christian tradition, God is described as Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent. These are metaphysical terms which apply to Ascendant Man: one who can know and embrace everything, do anything they choose, and be truly Universal. Once you reach this state of consciousness, you have already achieved the ability to be God. Psalm 46:10 – Be still and know that I am God. [OK, now I've just lost all credibility...]
- For the first time in our generation, serious scientific research is concluding that our traditional understanding of science is hopelessly inadequate and that Classical Physics is rapidly being replaced by Quantum Physics. Part of that process is realizing that thought alone is sufficient to perform miracles, as taught by most of the world’s religions. In essence, there is no clash between religion and science. The only clash is between religion and Classical Physics, which required faith to believe in a force which Quantum Physics can now prove definitively.
- All of life is an ongoing process, a constant development of consciousness or understanding. There are no results, outcomes, destinations or achievements worthy of praise. Only process. Consider a series of Russian nested dolls. Our limiting beliefs entrap us in a series of babushka cages. As we break free of one limiting belief, we become aware of the next belief holding us back.
- Humanity is currently experiencing a shift from one Age to the next. Just as people living through the Industrial Revolution were oblivious to the Big Picture changes around them, hindsight and historians will prove that the decades on either side of 2012 represented a major change in humanity’s thinking and progress, leading to the next Revolution (or rather, Evolution).
- As a result, the meaning and intent of business, commerce, conscious creation, methods of wealth creation and success will be totally different in years to come. This change from one way of doing business to another should be welcomed, not feared, by those who see the signs and are prepared. Civilizations have come and gone before, and many survived and even prospered. The decline of all previous civilizations was overly rapid growth of the empire, which we are currently witnessing. For those who are prepared, the collapse of industrialized civilization as we know it is assured and will be a positive outcome.

Quotable Quotes
“Wisdom is the ability to comfortably replace outdated beliefs.” — Michael Haupt
“In the beginning was the Big Bang. Following that were 15 billion years of evolution of stars and planets; the coming together of certain chemicals to create life on planet Earth; the further evolution of more complex life forms, and their sorting out through natural selection; culminating in the human brain with its fantastic capabilities. Thus the essential characteristics of human nature are to be understood as the consequence of an evolutionary succession of random events (from the origin of life to later mutations) and natural selections, and hence accidental—without purpose or meaning.
Since our basic drives appear to be survival, pleasure, and procreation, it is only natural that the economy should have become the paramount institution of modern society, around which everything else revolves, and that economic logic and values should be the primary guides to our individual and collective decision making. It is only natural that we should treat the Earth and our fellow creatures as ‘resources,’ to be used in the service of the economy, and that we should view controlling nature through technology as one of modern society’s most impressive achievements.
This central myth infuses and informs our education, healthcare policy, legal justice system, business, and other social institutions. If it were to be found fundamentally in error, the implications are far-reaching.” – Global Mind Change, The Worldview Challenge, Willis Harman. From Western Society’s Central Myth.
“You are at one with the Universe. He who says he is different from others, even by a hair’s breadth, immediately becomes miserable. Happiness belongs to him who knows this oneness, who knows he is one with the Universe.” – Hindu Upanishads
“Myths are grand stories that portray, in an imaginative and symbolic manner, the basic mental structures, understanding and worldview created by a culture and which in turn create and maintain that culture. As such, myths seem to be essential to cultural coherence and well-being and much of our contemporary confusion may reflect the fact that our culture is ‘between myths.’ Ideally, myths complement and harmonize with other modes of knowing and explanation such as rational knowledge and transrational wisdom. However, problems arise when symbolic myths are not recognized as such but are mistaken for empirical facts or linear logic.” – Perennial Wisdom in a Postmodern World, Roger Walsch

Hi Michael. There’s an inherent wisdom in your words and I really like the way you’ve described these core beliefs. I have a copy of Fresh Wisdom, which was my first exposure to some of your ideas. I’m glad to have reconnected with you.
Warren, thanks for your support & encouragement! As you will know, it’s a little daunting to put beliefs out there, particularly when they’re not exactly what the majority believe.
I hope you will find (after reading The 2012 Manifesto) that my thinking has developed a little since Fresh Wisdom, which was a little rushed and premature…
Michael,
I agree with you on most points belief wise. no one sees eye to eye on everything. And that’s okay. This 2012 thing is highly over rated, and if you have seen the commercial for the movie 2012 is a lot of hype. What most people forget to realize, because they have been programmed from birth by adults and media not to comprehend is that, ” The End of something is only the Beginning of something else.” There is no END. Not really. The Ice age ended the dinosaurs…and through out history. The end of the Dark Ages, and so on. You know what I’m talking about though of course. Most people don’t. Unfortunately. For them.
My concern is this, there is very precious little time between now and the ‘deadline.’ I wish to be prepared to be able to well take care of my loved ones. I am far from it. Closer than most but still ill prepared.

Art,
Agreed – there is no destination, achievement or outcome worthy of praise, the way the world idolizes achievements. There is only process. So there really is no ‘deadline’ – only a transition from one way of living to another….
Ooops!
I have just noticed you believe Christianity is a myth
& you believe in Evolution (which I think is a religion too sense it has to be believed since there is only theories and no real true scientific proof)
Anyways,
Are you seeking
& really open to change like you say you are?
Or is your agenda fixed?
Well, mine is fixed upon the Word of God (Old & New)
just as the laws set forth in the universe!
Anyways, I am open to friendship
& points of common ground
& to agree to disagree to a certain point,
if you are open!
c ya
Hi again
David, you did not answer the question ” where does Christ fit your scheme of things. You simply skirt the issue by stating that we will , somehow —’BECOME GOD (s). —through philosophy?? LOL!
According to God —this is never going to be possible
Isaiah chap 45;12 …”My hands formed the heavens –and their host ( inhabitants) ” 46;9 “I am God ,and there is NO OTHER” 48:12; I am the firsat and last, My hands formed the foundations of the EARTH
Please also answer the questions God asks Job–Job chap 38,39,& 40—where He names the constellations among other things . Isaiah 45;22 “LOOK TO ME AND BE SAVED ,FORIi AM GOD AND THERE IS NO OTHER”
Seems like there is no higher authority—except by going to a LOWER level of awareness
Why would you want to do that?
seeme pretty “absolute ‘”to me

@e-eric: I’m certainly open to discussion, provided you agree to cross reference other sacred texts with the Bible. One of the things that every world religion has in common is they all claim to be the ONLY way to enlightenment. I tend to believe that they all can assist the process in some way, and so all are valuable, but none have exclusive right to enlightenment.
Incidentally, I spent a good 15 years immersed in the Baptist religion, so I know the Bible well. However, I no longer follow any one religion.
@robin ward: Not sure who David is, but since you asked this question via email too, I’ll respond as if addressed to me.
I am assuming that by ‘Christ’ you are referring to the Christian Jesus Christ. As you may know, Jesus is recognised as a religious and ethical master, a reformer and a man of faith by Jews, Islamics, Hindus, Buddhists and numerous African tribal religions. Christians alone believe he is the Son of God and the Messiah. I acknowledge that Jesus the person lived, performed miracles, educated and died, but nothing more.
Just as I respect your belief that Jesus is the Son of God, I’d ask you to respect my beliefs without trying to insist that your beliefs and the sacred text you currently follow are the only way of viewing life.
Now I must jump in here… It is not a belief that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus called Himself that, and not only that but, Jesus claimed to be God. That Christians alone believe that He is the Son of God and the Messiah is wrong, it has to be noted that we are not born Christians. We are people from all faiths and non faiths that have had the conversion that Jesus forgives sin and that by trusting in Him for sins forgiveness that we become His followers. We then assume the name Christian. So we are from all faiths, all countries and all peoples. What is truly amazing is that almost all the apostles died horrible deaths rather then deny his Godhood. It is truly a shame that you spent 14 years in a religion and not at the foot of the cross.
Good to see you out and about again Michael. It has been a few years since Fresh Wisdom hit the e-shelves and since then, it appears, we have both lost people dear to us, grown a bit in one or more dimensions, and are ready to take on the world, even if it is from differing points of view.
I am looking forward to reading your text come Dec 21.
Geoff.
@Robert, thanks for your comments. Believe me, it took great courage to finally acknowledge to myself that Christianity wasn’t right FOR ME. I feared God’s wrath and retribution for many months before deciding to leave Christianity. Giving up on an entrenched belief system is tough, and I had to learn this the hard way. And now that I’ve ‘back-slidden’, God hasn’t still hasn’t smitten me, I no longer live in fear and I am leading a far more fulfilled life than I did as a miserable, questioning Christian who kept receiving answers of “Just have faith, brother” to all my soul-searching questions.
But just the same as I would never dream of trying to convince you to give up Christianity, please don’t pray for me, and please don’t quote Scripture trying to convince me how wrong I am. Let’s simply agree to differ, and I hope we can still remain friends despite our differences of opinion. Friendships mean far more to me than dogma.
@Geoff – awesome to hear from you again! I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Not sure I’m ready to take on the world – just doing what I believe I should, as best I can, in the hope that some of my writings could possibly make a positive impact on those who are curious and ready. I hope you’ll enjoy The 2012 Manifesto….
Mike you forgot that Jesus resurrected from the dead and was walking and talking for 40 days and many witnessed these events and the people you talk about repressed this truth. So run, run fast , enjoy, breath, expand your happiness, love , Joy, do on to others as you would have others do on to you and know that you can’t hide from God because he has conspired against us all for LOVE.
Hi Michael,
Thanks for your friendship invite on Facebook. I have just begun to read through your website and all the above comments. I sense alot of fear there. Congratulations for having the courage to step out on your own as you have done, you sound like a ground breaker and wayshower. So many sheep so few individuals. Will look forward to further investigations on what you have to say and further contact with you.
Warm regards
Carol
Nice to connect with you Carol, and thanks for your encouraging words!
