Daniel Reid
Daniel Reid is a bestselling author and a leading expert on eastern philosophy and medicine. He has written numerous books and magazine articles on various aspects of Asian self-health and self-healing practices, and has established an international reputation for the practical efficacy of his traditional approach to modern health problems.
The following are highly recommended books by Daniel Reid.
The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity
This is quite simply, the most important book ever written on the nuts and bolts of how to lead a simple, healthy and rewarding life while still being a part of modern society. Thousands of years of knowledge are condensed into a few hundred tightly written pages. Interspersed with practical instruction on diet, exercise, meditation, sex and hygiene are whimsical stories from the Taoist sages of ancient China, as well as the words of modern-day prophets whom you might never hear about anyplace else. This is the kind of book you will want to keep on your nightstand and just read over and over, little pieces at a time. Open this book to any page and just start reading, and you will learn something.
The Tao of Detox: The Secrets of Yang-Sheng Dao
Page after page is packed with advice, explanation, and recommendations on tools, techniques, methods, food and eating guidelines and products. I did a ten day cleanse as recommended by the author. It took some discipline to only do juices for 10 days and use the cleanse kit I bought, yet it was well worth the effort.
The book is incredibly comprehensive (there are so many little tips, product recommendations (not for the author’s benefit) etc. in there that may be of interest to the reader, including invaluable source lists), well researched and it’s quite clear the author is writing from personal experience, it’s not just something he’s researched or read. Reid knows what he’s talking about and has obviously made health and longevity and its study a core part of his life.
Complete Book of Chinese Health & Healing
There are thousands of books published about Chinese Medicine, but none come close to this one for readability, enjoyment, clarity, and detail. While I don’t agree with every single interpretation that Reid makes, I find that I am constantly referring to this book.
It is a great place to begin your exploration of Chinese Medicine in its broadest scope. Reid writes intelligently, and yet simply, about the full range of Chinese Medical practices and the foundations of Energetic Medicine too.
His format takes the reader, step-by-step, along the path of understanding this rich tradition of self-care, personal evolution, and natural healing. You will find plenty of personal stories in this book and a fair share of scientific findings which support the understanding presented.
Perhaps most importantly, you will be able to apply the basic principles, as described so clearly here, in your daily life. This is truly a book that can help you get started on the path of natural healing in your own life.
Shambhala Guide to Traditional Chinese Medicine
This book provides a good overview of the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine and how it differs from Western medicine. A good place to start if you’re trying to gain some perspective and/or an entry into alternative medicine and healing. Western trained physicians can benefit tremendously by understanding a completely different approach to healing. Highly recommended.
